How it all began..

The adoption of Free Open Source Software is taking over the world by storm. More companies and corporates are migrating to this software as a result of its promise of freedom, choices, and customization. Moreover, the idea of a secure software system that will ultimately cut costs incurred by proprietary software is not something to ignore. Huge investments in FOSS applications have continued to grow to make them mainstream.

Proprietary software developers have also begun to feel the pressure of this advancement.

By the year 2020, the open world forum predicts that 40% of jobs in IT will be FOSS-related. This relates to a growth rate of 2% of IT employment annually which directly translates to 1.5 million jobs in Europe that is 1.2 million completely new jobs.

Kenya has also not been left behind. Organizations ranging from financial institutions, mobile service providers, insurance companies, hospitals, non-governmental organizations, and parastatals, just to name a few, have adopted the use of FOSS. The growth of this phenomena posed a great challenge, especially to the 3rd world countries. To keep up with the global trend, there was the need to provide world-class FOSS training. However, the curriculum in learning institutions only provides manuals for proprietary software. This created a huge gap that needed to be filled within the shortest time possible.

Thus the birth of Linux Learning Centre.

The Company was founded in 2008 by Mr. Anthony Mwai. As a Lecturer in Computer science in Private and Public universities in Kenya, he identified this gap and came up with a Solution. He saw the gap as an opportunity to put Kenya in this bandwagon of change. This Would be made possible only if a provision was made to offer similar training recognized globally.

“Technology blossoms when the freedom to share ideas and refine the successes of others exist. The free open source software provides a ratified platform for collaboration and innovation,” says Anthony Mwai.

The centre has been in existence since 2008 and has trained the brightest minds in software technology.
